ACCEPTED MATERIALS AT OULU
At our Oulu waste sorting plant, we accept various types of waste, including construction and demolition waste, as well as commercial, and industrial waste, which are utilised as recycled raw materials.
The Oulu sorting facility also accepts individual fractions such as plaster board, roofing felt, flat glass and windscreens, hard plastics and plastic pipes and plastic and agricultural stretch films. These fractions do not go through the processing line but are handled separately and sent to our partners after sorting.
SEPARATION OF MATERIALS USING MODERN TECHNOLOGY
Our state-of-the-art sorting facility has been in production since 2021. The facility has 20 sorting machines and 40 conveyors. The sorting plant has 20 sorter machines and 40 conveyors.
THE FRACTIONS ON THE PRODUCTION LINE ARE SORTED DURING MANY STAGES
The received waste is pre-sorted and fed into the process for crushing. At the beginning of the process, the waste is sorted into three different lines based on particle size. Magnetic metals are separated using magnets, and non-magnetic metals are separated using eddy current separators.
Wind sifters are used to separate light material from heavy material. Optical sorters and infrared technology are used to sort, among other things, recyclable wood, and plastics. The sorting process also produces solid recovered fuel (SRF).
RECYCLING MATERIAL TO BE REUSED
The fractions resulting from the sorting process are utilised in the production of new products or as raw materials for industry.
SRF replaces fossil fuel and is used for the production of electricity and district heating in the Oulu region.
MORE EFFICIENT WASTE SORTING IN THE FUTURE
Syklo, in collaboration with its partners, explores more efficient ways to sort waste and increase the recycling rate. We continuously strive for better usability by developing our processes and investing in new technology.
Our goal is to promote a comprehensive circular economy and reduce the culture of disposability. Syklo is moving towards broader operations both domestically and internationally.
RECEPTION OF INDIVIDUAL FRACTIONS AT THE SORTING PLANT
We also accept individual fractions at the Rusko sorting plant, such as plasterboard, roofing felt, HDPE pipes, and plastic and agricultural stretch films.
These fractions do not go through the production line but are processed separately and continue their journeys to our partners after sorting. Learn about the fractions we accept and bring us the material for reuse and recycling.
ENVIRONMENTAL PERMIT FOR THE OULU WASTE SORTING PLANT
The Regional State Administrative Agency for Northern Finland has granted the circular economy company Syklo an expanded environmental permit for its sorting facility in Oulu. Previously, Syklo handled unsorted construction and demolition waste, as well as commercial and industrial waste, in Oulu under the Kiertokaari environmental permit. With this decision, an increasing proportion of waste materials will be returned to circulation, rather than being used for energy production.
