Syklo is investing in a fully electric crushing line in Oulu – supporting the green transition and expanding circular economy capacity
Circular economy company Syklo Oy will build a fixed wood crushing line at the Oulu sorting plant. The total investment of approximately 2 million euros will enhance the efficiency of wood material treatment and strengthen the capacity of Syklo’s recycling operations.
Syklo is converting its wood crushing operations in Oulu to fully electric power. The construction of the fixed crushing line will begin in autumn 2025, and the new line will replace the current diesel-powered mobile crushers beginning late November. The fully electric material feeder will reduce carbon dioxide emissions at the Oulu sorting plant by reducing reliance on traditional diesel-powered mobile crushing.
“By electrifying the wood crushing process, we can process material flows more efficiently and with lower carbon dioxide emissions. At the same time, we are enhancing the fuel supply to the Oulu biopower plant, supporting its operational reliability,” says Mikko Kokkonen, Head of Operations at Syklo.
With the crusher, Syklo is broadening its capacity to handle a wider range of materials
The fully electric crushing line will increase the capacity to treat wood such as large-format demolition wood. The investment will also improve the pre-treatment of plastics to be transferred to Syklo’s circular economy hub in Hyvinkää for further treatment.
“With the new crushing line, we can process all wood material, from demolition wood to rough boards. The line will also enable the processing of more challenging materials, such as furniture and mattresses, enhancing flexibility and efficiency in Syklo’s operations,” states Laura Kemppainen, Customer Relations Manager at Syklo.
The new technology will reinforce Syklo’s recycling operations in Oulu
The total investment amounts to approximately 2 million euros, with 1.3 million euros allocated to the technology. The total investment also covers regional upgrades to the sorting plant, including foundation work and upgrading the electricity supply system to meet increased power demands. The German manufacturer HAAS Recycling-Systems will supply the technology.
Circular economy company Syklo’s Oulu sorting plant is one of the most advanced circular economy plants in Finland, combining environmental responsibility, efficient recovery of materials, and solutions of the future.

The material fed into the line undergoes processing through a primary crusher, multiple metal removal stages, and final fine crushing, after which it is ready for further use, such as recycled fuel or raw material.
